The Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), Denmark, invites applications for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in natural language processing to be filled by 1 August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department of Nordic Studies and Linguistics is home to 1600 students and 160 members of staff. It provides the setting for international research and education from BA to PhD studies within language, language technology, Natural Language Processing, literature, media, culture, and gender studies. The successful candidate will be attached to the Centre for Language Technology (CST), which is one of the research centres of the department. CST conducts research in different areas of interest for language technology, such as Natural Language Processing, construction of NLP resources, Computational Cognitive Modeling and Multimodality, NLP infrastructure and policy, Representation Learning for NLP and Digital Humanities, among others. It has a strong international profile, at the same time as pursuing the development of language technology methods and resources for the Danish language. The Centre has considerable experience managing international research projects, frequently attracts visiting researchers, and has organised major conferences in the field. In collaboration with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen, it offers an international MSc programme in IT and Cognition. The programme, which currently admits about 30 students a year, comprises a range of courses in Natural Language Processing and Cognitive Science. The candidate will contribute to the project’s work package 1: Exploring Metaphor Encodings in LLMs. The main goal of this package is to explore the internal dynamics of LLMs when processing metaphors and to investigate their relationship to human cognition and culture. Specifically, we aim to explain how an LLM implicitly maps the literal form of a metaphor to its linguistic and cultural meaning, and how this mapping can be informed by language- and culture-specific knowledge graphs that encode relationships between metaphorical expressions and their intended meanings. We expect the candidates to have a relevant research profile in computational linguistics and natural language processing (or other related areas) with a strong publication record in Computational Linguistics conferences (ACL, EMNLP, COLING, LREC, and so on). Postdoctoral Position in European Mobility Law Position Overview The Danish National Research Foundation's Center of Excellence for Global Mobility Law (MOBILE) invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral position commencing September 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a 24-month fixed-term position with possibility of extension. Research Focus We seek a strong candidate with research interest and expertise in the interplay between law and politics in European mobility law - the adoption, implementation, and enforcement of legal frameworks governing cross-border human movement. This encompasses entry, residence, movement, and work rights across states, spanning free movement, migration, transnational labor, and human rights frameworks. The position contributes to MOBILE's research analyzing legal and political processes that shape regional infrastructures for transborder human mobility, examining their implementation, enforcement, and contestation in practice. The successful candidate will participate in interdisciplinary research empirically examining European immigration and free movement law development, including interactions with national and international legal regimes and regional mobility systems. Postdoctoral Position in History of Philosophy The Department of Communication, Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen (UCPH), invites applications for a postdoctoral position in History of Philosophy from 1 May 2026. This is a fixed-term position for 30 months. About the Project The postdoc will contribute to the ERC-funded project "Women in the Nordic Enlightenment (WHENCE): Changing the narratives of early modern philosophy and uncovering women's contribution to Scandinavian gender equality" led by PI Sabrina Ebbersmeyer. This groundbreaking project aims to illuminate and critically assess women's intellectual contribution to the Nordic Enlightenment by examining an extensive text corpus of unpublished and published works by over a hundred Scandinavian women. The project explores the hypothesis that Nordic women's Enlightenment significantly differed from developments elsewhere in Europe, with women playing a decisive role in establishing the Nordic countries' identification with gender equality. The expert on "Female Rule" will investigate the impact of high nobility women, particularly queens, on perceptions of female rule and women in power. This research encompasses queens' writings (correspondence and autobiographies), women's writings dedicated to queens, laudatory poems, texts about exemplary female rulers, and complementary university dissertations addressing female rule. The role will also examine gender fluidity by analyzing tensions between established gender roles and female rulers. About the Department The postdoc will be affiliated with the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Women in the History of Philosophy (INSPIRE) and the internationally renowned Section for Philosophy within the Department of Communication. The department comprises approximately 80 faculty members, 40 PhD students, 20 postdocs, 40 part-time lecturers, 11 administrative staff, and 2,200 students. Annually generating approximately 30 million DKK in external research funding, the department produces world-leading research that sets the agenda for many national initiatives and conversations.
