Postdoctoral Research Associate - Spatial Transcriptomics and Extracellular Vesicle Biology
Job Description
Postdoctoral Researcher Position - Extracellular Vesicle Biology
Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University
Are you passionate about challenging established norms in extracellular vesicle biology? Do you have experience in single-cell RNAseq? The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Aarhus University invites you to apply for an exciting 2-year postdoctoral position.
Position Details
- Duration: 2 years starting April 1, 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter
- Project: Funded by Lundbeck Foundation through the LF Experiment grant "A Brain-wide Atlas of Cell-to-Cell Communication via Extracellular Vesicles"
Research Focus
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will use zebrafish embryos as a model organism to establish clear evidence for extracellular vesicle-driven crosstalk in the brain beyond synapses. This ambitious project will train you as an expert in extracellular vesicle biology with specialized skills in genetic engineering, live embryo imaging, and spatial transcriptomics.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality international research and publish in top-tier journals
- Collaborate with colleagues in extracellular vesicle and neurobiology research
- Provide research-based supervision to Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD students
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in a relevant field (Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or related)
- Proven track record in either spatial transcriptomics or extracellular vesicle biology
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in spatial transcriptomics (single-cell RNAseq)
- Experience in imaging and image analysis
- Background in genetic engineering (plasmid construction and transfection)
- Experience with zebrafish or other animal models
Personal Qualities
- High motivation and ambition for academic career advancement
- Excellent collaborative, communication, and presentation skills
- Fluency in spoken and written English
Research Environment
You will join a dynamic research group led by Associate Professor Yuya Hayashi, focusing on extracellular vesicle biology and RNA nanotechnology. The team studies cell-to-cell communication via extracellular vesicles using zebrafish models, with applications in nanomedicine design. Dr. Hayashi also coordinates EVAnet, a cross-departmental network of extracellular vesicle researchers at Aarhus University.
