Senior Actuarial Manager
Job Description
Senior Actuarial Manager – IFRS 17 Reporting
Working Arrangement: Hybrid
About the Role
The customer is the focus of everything we do, and millions of end users rely on our products and services every day. We believe in empowering our people with the resources, support, and environment they need to drive meaningful business outcomes — and this role is central to that mission.
This is a pivotal leadership position within our actuarial function, tasked with elevating our IFRS 17 reporting practice to new heights. As Senior Actuarial Manager, you will lead a dedicated team of actuarial students and junior actuaries, taking ownership of IFRS 17 reporting requirements across assigned lines of business. You will also play a key role in driving continuous improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of financial results production — leveraging technology and the extensive support available from internal teams, as well as Group and Regional offices.
If you are a technically strong, collaborative, and forward-thinking actuarial professional ready to take on a high-impact leadership role, we want to hear from you.
Responsibilities
- Lead a small team of actuarial students and junior actuaries to deliver IFRS 17 reporting requirements, including but not limited to:
- Insurance contract reserves
- Drivers of Earnings (DoE) analysis
- Contractual Service Margin (CSM) and New Business CSM analysis
- Other Group reporting requirements for assigned lines of business
- Collaborate closely with teams under the Hong Kong Chief Actuary's leadership, as well as departments across the broader IFRS 17 community — including the Valuation Shared Service Center, Group offices, and Regional offices — to:
- Maintain valuation models in line with external and internal audit and control requirements
- Deliver process optimization initiatives that improve efficiency and effectiveness in financial results production
- Support additional IFRS 17 and related requirements aligned with the company's broader business strategy
- Provide active leadership and coaching to junior team members, supporting their professional development and building a high-performing, capable actuarial team
- Manage multiple concurrent deliverables and competing priorities from various stakeholders, maintaining quality and accuracy under demanding timelines
- Communicate clearly and credibly on technical and business matters to senior management, internal stakeholders, and external parties
Required Qualifications
- Degree holder with professional actuarial qualifications such as FSA, FIA, or equivalent — or close to attainment of such qualifications
- Solid actuarial knowledge and hands-on experience in valuation, financial reporting, and/or product pricing; experience with IFRS 17 in or for a direct life insurer is a strong advantage
- 7–10 years of relevant working experience in the insurance industry
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills, with experience leading and/or mentoring junior colleagues
- Strong stakeholder management capabilities, including the ability to engage effectively with senior internal stakeholders, cross-functional teams, and external parties
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to work through complex financial issues with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills — able to communicate technical and business matters clearly and concisely to diverse audiences
- Ability to lead, motivate, and develop junior colleagues in a supportive and structured manner
- Proven ability to manage multiple conflicting requests and deliver results under pressure and tight deadlines
- Effective command of English, both spoken and written
