Job description The postdoc position is focused on understanding spatiotemporal current patterns of biodiversity and model the potential future biodiversity recovery given during land use transformation and restoration in Denmark. This involves spatial and temporal optimisation and prioritisation of land for biodiversity, as well as analyses of past and current land use configurations for multiple facets of biodiversity, i.e. species, functional, phylogenetic, and genetic diversity. The tasks will encompass: Conceptualisation and theoretical development of spatiotemporal optimisation of biodiversity dynamics during recovery. Synthesising and modelling and species pools and biodiversity patterns given different restoration measures. Prioritisation and optimisation of land for biodiversity, relative to other societal challenges, in particular climate change. Geospatial analyses of past and current land use patterns of importance for changes in effective populations sizes and genetic diversity patterns. Qualifications Ideally you have a PhD in natural sciences with a strong research background and several years of work experience in data science for ecological studies of multiple facets of biodiversity, i.e. species and genetic diversity. Specifically, we look for the following qualifications: PhD in biology, ecology, environmental science with several years and proven experience in one or several of those research fields including expertise in macroecology and systematic conservation planning. Proven expertise in temporal and geospatial analyses of biodiversity patterns, and their drivers. Including the conceptualisation and development of new methodological approaches. Strong documented skills in advanced optimisation and prioritisation of biodiversity, e.g. in AMPL, prioritizr. Proven skills in deriving landscape metrics of relevance for understanding patterns of genetic diversity, e.g. fragmentation and connectivity. Proven skills in the implementation of species distribution models and the modelling of species pools across natural and agricultural landscapes under transformation. Proven capabilities of acquiring, downloading, handling, and synthesising big data geospatial data sets from various data sources. Cutting-edge expertise in advanced statistical analyses of large data sets and strong knowledge of programming languages (e.g., R, Python). Proven ability to publish at a high international level. The postdoc will work on a research project financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark. The project is entitled "Local Policy Customization in a Double Democracy" (DOUBLEDEM) and focuses on how subnational politics customizes national policies. The Department of Political Science at Aarhus University invites applications for one full-time, three-year postdoctoral position in the ERC Starting Grant project EQUILIBRIUM — Changing for the Better: Escaping Negative Equilibria in State-Citizen Relations — led by Associate Professor Jan P. Vogler. The starting date is 1 August 2026 or 1 September 2026 (with further flexibility based on mutual agreement). The Research Project EQUILIBRIUM investigates how regions can escape vicious cycles in state-citizen relations. In some contexts, poor state performance in the delivery of public goods and services reinforces negative population attitudes, which leads to the election of parties that limit the state’s resources and fewer applicants for public sector jobs, among others. This perpetuates the state’s poor performance, creating a self-reinforcing dynamic. The project examines which factors enable regions to break out of these negative patterns and shift toward more positive equilibria characterized by more favorable citizen attitudes. The project develops new theoretical concepts and empirical measures, using a novel sequential research design that integrates observational data, large-scale public opinion surveys, and inquiries to public administrations. Empirically, the project will collect comprehensive data across five European countries (Denmark, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Romania) and the United States. Polyphony, coherence and involvement when writing with generative AI, we explore a potentially new broad form of hybrid human–AI writing that also involves navigating artificially generated text. Through a qualitative text and classroom design, we examine writing with generative AI tools in Danish L1 classrooms in Year 7 and 8 from dialogical, sociocultural and social semiotic perspectives. We focus on students’ observable writing processes in terms of strategies and interactions, their texts, and their explicit reflections on these processes and their writing choices. We are particularly interested in how generative AI contributes to or challenges students' involvement in writing, and how it affects the way they orchestrate multiple voices and create coherence in texts – all of which are pivotal for literacy learning. Besides much-needed empirical insights, we expect to enrich the theoretical concepts of polyphony, coherence, and involvement with new dimensions. Postdoctoral position The selected applicant will work in close collaboration with PI Kristine Kabel and the rest of the research team throughout the employment period, including planning and conducting fieldwork, analysing data, disseminating, and arranging advisory board meetings. The two main tasks will be to conduct and write a literature review to identify existing knowledge about lower secondary students' writing processes, texts, and reflections on writerly choices in non-GAI practices, and to carry out a specific work package in the project in collaboration with the entire research team. In this work package, we seek to explore what characterises Year 7 and 8 students’ observable writing strategies and interactions when participating in hybrid text practices with generative AI tools. As part of this work package, the postdoctoral researcher will be expected to conduct fieldwork in three classrooms in collaboration with the researchers in the team, in spring 2026, and autumn/winter 2026-27, and participate in analytical activities and the writing of one article, also as part of a collaborative effort.
