About the Role

With more than 130 years of unrivaled journalism and one of the largest newsgathering operations in the world, Dow Jones is a division of News Corp and delivers trusted content to consumers and organizations across print, digital, mobile, and live event platforms.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned energy journalist to make an immediate impact by breaking news and delivering sharp, authoritative insights across the global energy landscape. Your initial geographic focus will be on markets West of Suez, covering everything from OPEC and IEA developments to supply and demand fundamentals and the strategies of the world's major energy trading companies.
Responsibilities
- Breaking News & Original Reporting — Originate and author timely, exclusive breaking news and in-depth insights across the energy sector, with a particular focus on energy trading, international energy policy, and the intersection of geopolitics and commodities
- Data-Driven Journalism — Source, interpret, and report fluently from a wide range of data sets and report-based information across energy and commodity markets, identifying trends and stories that others miss
- Visual Storytelling — Produce short-form video reels that explain key thematic energy issues and stories in an accessible, compelling format for modern audiences
- Integrated Reporting — Work closely with editors, writers, and price reporters to incorporate Dow Jones Energy price assessments and benchmarks seamlessly into news coverage
- Source Development — Cultivate and maintain a robust network of high-level industry contacts, conducting exclusive interviews with newsmakers across the energy space
- Collaboration — Partner with the head of news, a data-visualisation team, and a bench of price reporters to develop and produce stories and visual content that reflect the full depth of Dow Jones Energy's reporting capabilities
- Editorial Standards — Uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and editorial integrity consistent with Dow Jones's long-standing journalistic reputation
Requirements
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of journalism experience working within a professional newsroom environment
- Portfolio: A strong and demonstrable portfolio of breaking energy news, market insights, and exclusive interviews with prominent figures in the energy industry
- Technical Skills:
- Exceptional writing and editing ability across multiple formats and deadlines
- Proven data analysis skills, including the ability to break news through data and identify emerging trends
- Strong source development and relationship management capabilities
- Deep, working knowledge of physical energy markets, commodity trading, and international energy policy
- Multimedia storytelling skills, including comfort with video and digital content formats
- Experience working within newsroom content management systems, ideally NewsPress or similar platforms
- Data journalism proficiency, including the ability to search, identify, and contextualize new and evolving data sets
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities under deadline pressure
- Comfortable working across editorial, data, and visual teams in a fast-paced, global newsroom
