We are seeking an experienced and driven Energy Journalist / Editor with a strong, established track record of breaking news and delivering sharp insights across a range of energy and commodity sectors. You will cover the full breadth of the global energy landscape — from OPEC and IEA developments to supply and demand fundamentals and the strategic moves of major global energy trading companies. Your initial geographic focus will be on markets West of Suez, making deep knowledge of Atlantic Basin energy flows, European gas markets, and related geopolitical dynamics particularly valuable.

Responsibilities

• Breaking News & Original Reporting: Originate and author timely, authoritative breaking news and in-depth insights across the energy sector, with a particular focus on energy trading, international energy policy, and the intersection of geopolitics and commodities markets.

• Data Analysis & Data-Driven Journalism: Source, interpret, and work fluently with a wide range of datasets and report-based information across energy and commodities. Identify emerging trends and break news through data before others do.

• Visual & Multimedia Storytelling: Record short-form video reels and other multimedia content that clearly explains key thematic energy issues, market movements, and major stories to a broad professional audience.

• Collaboration & Newsroom Integration: Work closely with editors, fellow journalists, and price reporters to seamlessly incorporate Dow Jones Energy price assessments and benchmarks into news reports. Contribute to a collaborative, fast-paced newsroom culture by partnering with the head of news, a data-visualisation team, and a bench of price reporters on stories and visual content.

• Source Development: Cultivate and maintain a strong network of high-level industry contacts — including traders, analysts, policy makers, and company executives — capable of generating exclusive interviews and newsmaker access in the energy space.

• Editorial Standards: Uphold the highest standards of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic integrity across all published content.

Requirements

• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of journalism experience working within a professional newsroom environment.

• Portfolio: A demonstrable portfolio of breaking energy news and analytical insights, including exclusive interviews with newsmakers and key figures across the energy industry.

• Technical Skills:
• Exceptional writing and editing ability across multiple formats and deadlines
• Proven data analysis skills with the ability to identify and break news through datasets
• Strong source development and relationship management
• Deep understanding of physical energy markets, commodity trading, and global energy policy
• Multimedia storytelling capabilities, including comfort with on-camera video content
• Experience working within NewsPress or similar content management systems
• Data journalism aptitude, including the ability to search, identify, and analyze new datasets and trends

• Knowledge Base: A thorough command of global energy market dynamics — including OPEC policy, IEA reporting, LNG, crude oil, refined products, and the broader geopolitical forces shaping commodity flows, particularly in markets West of Suez.

• Soft Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; highly organized and detail-oriented; collaborative by nature with the ability to work efficiently across editorial, data, and visual teams in a deadline-driven environment.
