About ESB
Join a mission that matters. ESB is Ireland's leading energy utility, with activities spanning electricity generation, transmission and distribution, energy supply, energy services and international consultancy. Operating across Ireland, Northern Ireland and Great Britain, ESB invests over €1 billion each year to deliver a new energy future built on reliable, affordable, zero-carbon electricity — with an ambition to achieve a net-zero electricity system by 2040.
About the Role
The Developing Businesses function exists to scale ESB's emerging businesses within Customer Solutions and to support the delivery of ESB's Net Zero Strategy. The function comprises four distinct and fast-growing businesses:
- Smart Energy Services (SES) — delivering decarbonisation solutions to business customers
- ecars — delivering EV charging infrastructure and services to support the transition to electric vehicles
- Superhomes — delivering residential retrofit solutions to reduce customers' carbon footprints
- So Energy — a London-based supplier of gas, electricity, energy products and related services to residential customers across the UK
Each of these businesses is executing a significant portfolio of projects to support ambitious growth plans and operational scaling. These initiatives vary considerably in scale, complexity and value — ranging from targeted business improvements to multi-million euro strategic programmes. As Developing Businesses continues to grow, a structured and effective Project Management Office (PMO) is essential to provide governance, oversight and delivery assurance across the portfolio.
The PMO Specialist plays a pivotal role in enabling Developing Businesses to successfully deliver its portfolio of strategic investments. Acting as a centre of excellence, this role supports the development and implementation of PMO frameworks, governance structures and delivery standards, while providing portfolio insight, constructive challenge and effective oversight to drive successful project outcomes and informed decision-making across multiple high-growth businesses.

- Establish and maintain project delivery controls, including stage gates, project reviews, health checks, safety, risk and issue management, dependency management and escalation processes
- Ensure lessons learned reviews are completed for all major projects, with recommendations tracked, embedded into future project delivery approaches and reflected in contract negotiations and business case approvals
- Monitor portfolio performance, providing oversight of project milestones, budgets, forecasts, risks, issues and dependencies, and identifying emerging delivery trends requiring management attention
- Lead the planning and operation of Project Boards, coordinating agendas, decisions, actions and escalations to support effective oversight and sound decision-making
- Facilitate workshops and process mapping activities with project teams and stakeholders to support project planning, risk management, lessons learned and continuous improvement
- Provide guidance and constructive challenge to project teams, promoting good project management practices and strengthening delivery capability across Developing Businesses
