Pricing Intern
Job Description
Pricing Internship | Manulife
About the Role
Manulife's Pricing team offers interns a rich, hands-on experience across a broad spectrum of pricing and actuarial modelling work. This is not a passive, observational internship — interns are entrusted with tasks that are genuinely material to the team's day-to-day operations, with increasing technical responsibility extended to those who demonstrate the capability and drive to take it on.
The team operates with a strong learning culture at its core. Interns are actively encouraged to ask questions, seek clarification, and engage deeply with both the technical and conceptual dimensions of actuarial pricing work. Whether you're navigating Excel models, exploring actuarial software, or getting your first exposure to how life insurance products are designed and priced, you'll find a supportive environment that invests in your growth.
This is a hybrid working arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Utilise Excel Post-Sale Illustration templates to support in-force servicing requests
- Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new product launches, involving extensive use of Microsoft Excel and VBA
- Perform peer review of pricing models on AXIS (actuarial modelling software), gaining direct insight into how policyholder benefits and actuarial reserves are modelled within a life insurance context
- Build Policy Illustration templates and develop the underlying calculations that support them
- Contribute to ad-hoc pricing and modelling tasks as assigned by the team
What You'll Gain
- Exposure to real actuarial pricing workflows in a leading international financial services organisation
- Practical, working knowledge of industry-standard tools including Excel, VBA, and AXIS actuarial software
- Insight into how life insurance products are structured, priced, and maintained post-sale
- Mentorship from experienced actuarial professionals who are genuinely invested in intern development
- A foundation of skills and experience directly relevant to a career in actuarial science, pricing, or financial services
Requirements
- Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree (actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or a related discipline is an advantage)
- Self-motivated with a genuine desire to learn and grow
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with VBA or actuarial concepts is a bonus but not required
- Proactive communicator who is comfortable asking questions and raising issues early
