Position Overview
The Section for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BiRC), Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (MBG) at Aarhus University, Denmark, seeks a highly motivated researcher for a tenure-track position beginning September 1, 2026.
About the Role
We welcome candidates from all areas of bioinformatics and computational biology with a strong focus on developing computational and statistical methods, particularly in machine learning and artificial intelligence. The successful candidate will complement and expand our research portfolio while contributing to our teaching mission.
For assistant professor candidates, we offer comprehensive local mentoring during the tenure track period and negotiable start-up funding to establish a competitive research program. Senior candidates may be considered for associate professor positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and lead an independent research team
- Develop and deliver a competitive, innovative research program at the highest international level
- Collaborate with departmental researchers and support translational research initiatives
- Teach and develop courses for Master's and PhD students in computational and statistical subjects including programming, algorithms, machine learning, and artificial intelligence
- Supervise Master's and PhD student projects
- Secure external funding from national and international bodies
- Participate in departmental administration and strategic development
- Mentor junior researchers in funding applications and career development
- Disseminate research and engage with industry and public sector stakeholders
Requirements
- PhD degree in relevant field
- Demonstrated excellence in bioinformatics/computational biology research
- Strong background in computational and statistical method development
- Experience or potential in machine learning and artificial intelligence applications
About BiRC and MBG
BiRC is an interdisciplinary research center employing approximately 40 researchers and PhD students within the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. We span major bioinformatics research areas and oversee the Master's program in Bioinformatics. Our vibrant, collaborative, international environment conducts internal communications and teaching primarily in English.
