The Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI) is a world-leading initiative dedicated to reducing the global burden of dementia and improving brain health equity, particularly for underserved and marginalised communities. In partnership with Fondation Alzheimer (FA), GBHI delivers the Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health Program — a prestigious international fellowship that empowers the next generation of leaders in brain health research and advocacy.

About the Role

This Research Assistant position is funded through Fondation Alzheimer as part of the French Alzheimer's Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health Program — a landmark initiative designed to empower medical researchers engaged in Alzheimer's disease and related disorders who are fully committed to generating bold, globally impactful ideas in the fight against dementia.

The Atlantic Fellows for Equity in Brain Health is a prestigious, interdisciplinary, 12-month residential fellowship based at Trinity College Dublin. The programme develops emerging leaders committed to improving brain health equity and reducing the global impact of dementia, with particular emphasis on communities that are underserved and disproportionately affected by neurological disorders.

Fellows engage in an immersive academic and experiential curriculum that combines structured learning, expert mentorship, pilot project development, and active engagement with both clinical and community settings. Upon completing the programme, fellows join a lifelong global network of Atlantic Fellows working to advance brain health worldwide. Successful candidates may also apply for a Postgraduate Certificate in Equity in Brain Health, awarded upon successful completion of the academic components of the fellowship.

Key Responsibilities

As a fellow and Research Assistant within this programme, you will be expected to:

• Actively participate in the full 12-month residential fellowship curriculum, including structured academic modules, workshops, and seminars focused on brain health equity
• Develop and execute a pilot research or community project related to Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or neurological health equity
• Engage meaningfully with clinical environments, community organisations, and interdisciplinary peers to broaden understanding of dementia's global impact
• Work under the guidance of expert mentors from GBHI, Fondation Alzheimer, and Trinity College Dublin's wider academic network
• Contribute to collaborative learning within a diverse, international cohort of fellows
• Produce research outputs, presentations, or policy-relevant work that reflects the programme's commitment to equity and impact
• Apply knowledge and skills gained during the fellowship within your home community or region upon programme completion
• Participate in the broader Atlantic Fellows network, contributing to a global movement advancing brain health equity

Requirements

In accordance with Fondation Alzheimer's eligibility requirements, the following criteria apply:

• French citizenship is required — this is a condition of funding eligibility as set by Fondation Alzheimer
• A background in medical research, clinical practice, neuroscience, public health, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated commitment to advancing equity in brain health, dementia research, or related fields
• Evidence of engagement with underserved communities or low- and middle-income settings is highly desirable
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (the primary language of instruction)
• Capacity to undertake a full-time, 12-month residential programme based in Dublin, Ireland
• A compelling vision for how learning from the fellowship will be applied in your home community or region
