Postdoctoral Researcher Position: Ultrafast X-ray Probes of Quantum Materials Department of Physics and Astronomy Position Overview We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our team for an exciting 2-year position investigating ultrafast X-ray probes of quantum materials. The position is available starting August 1st, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional years. Research Focus The successful candidate will lead cutting-edge X-FEL and synchrotron-based experiments to study the dynamics of light-induced phase transitions on atomic and nanoscopic length scales. Your research will focus on: • Understanding how different excitation methods generate polarons and correlated materials in cuprates and other quantum materials • Building upon our recent breakthrough results in vanadium dioxide (Johnson et al. Nature Physics 20, 970, 2024) • Expanding coherent imaging methodology to examine dynamics and phase switching in materials at the nanoscale (Johnson et al. Nature Physics 19, 215, 2023) • Combining facility-based research with experiments in our state-of-the-art femtosecond laser laboratories Qualifications Required • PhD in Physics, Chemistry, or related field • Strong background in either ultrafast physics or quantum materials • Significant experience with XFEL, synchrotron facilities, or advanced ultrafast laser experiments preferred • Willingness to travel for international user facility experiments Preferred Qualifications • Experience with phase retrieval algorithms • Clean room experience and e-beam lithography skills • Previous collaboration at international research facilities About Our Research Group Join a dynamic, small but growing research team dedicated to tackling outstanding problems in quantum materials through innovative experimental approaches. Postdoctoral Researcher - Robotics: Dynamics and Control of Fusion Reactor Maintenance Systems Duration: 20-month position starting May 1st, 2026 or as soon as possible About the Role Join the Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering in an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in robotics and fusion reactor technology. This postdoctoral position focuses on the dynamics and control of robotic handling and maintenance systems for fusion reactors as part of the EUROfusion program.
